It’s been a while since I last wrote…Perhaps this will be a good start. The slow rhythmic beeping suddenly broke into a startling run. I crossed the road as usual, walking towards Victoria Park, heading home. Yet, I could not walk in my usual pace. The Park was exceptionally crowded today. There must be some sort of exhibition going on… I thought. It occurs almost as an instinct to me that one should always avoid two places during weekends. One is Central and the other Victoria Park. The reason is simple: they have always, quite unofficially, been reserved. And now, the additional visitors only made the already occupied Park even more packed. Moving in a painfully slow speed, I looked around. To my right, there was a line of ticket boxes. It reminded me of the Brand and Product Expo Fair held not long ago. But what on earth can this exhibition be as powerful as the Fair that it gathered such a congregation? Curiosity started to grow in me. As the stream of people pushed me near the entrance, I finally got a chance to look up and search for the theme of this exhibition. Then, my heart dropped as the word struck me Flowers No doubt that flower has always been used as a depiction of beauty. No doubt that flowers are used in the Valentines, funerals and many other special occasions to express our love, our sympathy or our gratitude, or simply, just to make the place look better. Flowers have never quite gained my affection. They are beautiful. No way to deny it. Under the sun, they emanate so much energy; with the breeze, they dance like elves. Yet behind the mesmerizing appearance, they are as well delicate and transient. They need attentive care to an excruciating extent. Not too much water not too little. Soil must be in perfect conditions with appropriate sunlight. Pull all this together and, voilà, here is your piece of decoration whose pedals will fall one day and whose scent will eventually fade away. Trees on the other hand have their own beauty that I appreciate more. They are tall and tough. I can always lean on one of them comfortably without worrying that my weight will crush it into a smudge of unidentifiable mass. They are simple yet contributive. Their canopy filters away sunlight for those who walk in their shade. Their breath rejuvenates the air. But why people only pay their attention to the flowers being exhibited, but not the lonely trees spreading around? |
